Winschoten Groningen
 |
 |
 |
 |
Winschoten is a city in the province
of Groningen in the northeast corner of the Netherlands, only
a few kilometres from the border with Germany. Winschoten has
a railway station on the line from Groningen to Leer (in Germany)
and a road connection to the rest of the Netherlands via the
A7 motorway. There used to be 13 windmills in Winschoten, but
today only three remain in the town. These large monumental mills
form an important feature of the townscape and are owned by the
local council and run by volunteer millers. |

Places to visit in Groningen |
|
 |
Groningen is the northeasternmost
province of the Netherlands. To the east it borders the German
state of Niedersachsen (districts of Leer and Emsland), in the
south Drenthe, in the west Friesland and in the north the Wadden
Sea. The capital of the province is the city of Groningen. The
province has an abundance of space and tranquillity, and along
the pretty country lanes and among extensive farmlands, are ancient
churches and tiny villages. The city of Groningen has picturesque
streets and squares, and its typical pubs and shops. The historical
towns of Ter Apel and Bourtange (fortress) should also be visited. |
