Sneek is a city in the province of
Friesland in the northern Netherlands, located on the A7-E22
about 15 kms south of Leeuwarden. It is a quaint little city
with a wonderful shopping centre that is walker and biker friendly.
There are clothing stores, nice restaurants, bars, music stores,
cafes and little coffee shops. Sneek is to be the home of the
world's first road bridge to be made out of the modified wood
"Accoya". The 50m-span bridge is to provide the gateway
into the city of and can support loads of up to 100 tonnes. |

Friesland is an area of picturesque
fishing villages and historic towns. Visitors should not miss
the old towns of Hindelopen, Stavoren and Dokkum, the 'Friese
Meren' (the lakes of Friesland), and their pretty villages and
the National Park "Drents-Friese Woud" (Forest). The
Waddenzee is a unique part of the North Sea. Weather permitting,
you can even walk across the mudflats between the mainland and
a Wadden Island. |

By Air - Amsterdam's airport Schiphol (www.schiphol.nl) is
the Netherlands’ main international airport and the third
busiest in Europe. Rotterdam Airport (www.rotterdam-airport.nl)
is much smaller but has handy links to the UK, Germany and Mediterranean
destinations.
By Ferry - Several companies operate car/passenger ferries
between the Netherlands and the UK. Stenaline (www.stenaline.co.uk)
sails between Harwich and Hoek van Holland, while P&O North
Sea Ferries (www.poferries.com) operates an overnight ferry every
evening between Hull and Europoort (near Rotterdam).
By Train - The Netherlands has good train links to Germany
and Belgium and on to France.
By Bus - Amsterdam and Rotterdam, and a few of Holland’s
smaller cities such as Den Haag and Utrecht, are well connected
to the rest of Europe by long-distance bus.
