Roermond is a city in the province
of Limburg, in the southeastern part of the Netherlands. Limburg
is bordered by the Maas River to the west and Germany to the
east. It is a historically important town, and due to its impressive
architecture and pleasant skyline, Roermond town centre has been
designated as a conservation area. In addition to important churches,
the town centre boasts many listed buildings and monuments. The
skyline of the historic town is dominated by the towers of its
two churches: St. Christopher Cathedral and Munster Church. Access
roads to Roermond have been upgraded providing direct access
to the Dutch and German highway network. From north to south
the the A73 (Maastricht-Nijmegen) is situated underneath and
alongside the city. To the east is the German A52 (Düsseldorf).
Westbound the local throughway N280 leads towards Weert and onwards
to the A2 towards Eindhoven. |

Limburg is the southern-most of the
twelve provinces of the Netherlands, located in the southeastern

most European city, where the Treaty of Maastricht was signed.

include the caves of Valkenburg, Theme Park Mondo Verde (Landgraaf),
the gardens of the castle of Arcen and Thorn, the white town.

destinations.
By Ferry - Several companies operate car/passenger ferries
between the Netherlands and the UK. Stenaline (www.stenaline.co.uk)
sails between Harwich and Hoek van Holland, while P&O North
Sea Ferries (www.poferries.com) operates an overnight ferry every
evening between Hull and Europoort (near Rotterdam).
By Train - The Netherlands has good train links to Germany
and Belgium and on to France.
By Bus - Amsterdam and Rotterdam, and a few of Hollands
smaller cities such as Den Haag and Utrecht, are well connected
to the rest of Europe by long-distance bus.
