Heerenveen Friesland

Holiday homes around Heerenveen	Heerenveen is located in southeast Friesland, about 20 kms south of Leeuwarden. It was originally one of the a peat-cutting towns, founded in 1551; the name "Heerenveen" means “Lords’ Peat Bog”. Now industrialized, it is home to businesses dedicated to food-processing, electronics and the manufacture of buses and bicycles. It has a 17th-century town hall and a museum of bicycles and motorcycles. Heerenveen is famous for its sporting accomplishments and world class sports venues including the Abe Lenstra football stadium and the Thialf speed skating arena, one of the first indoor 400m ice rinks in the world, and where annually held international events draw large crowds.
