Assen Drenthe
 |
 |
 |
 |
Assen is the capital of the province
of Drenthe in the north eastern Netherlands. It is also a historical
and commercial centre, whose claim to fame is the TT motorcycle
racing circuit, run on the last Saturday in June.
The scenery of Drenthe is characterised
by forests, moors, former fen communities, brook valleys and
sheep. This region is ideal for walking, cycling, and mountain-biking.

Places to visit in Drenthe |
|
 |
There are no less than 52 hunebeds
(Megalithic tombs) and well over a thousand burial mounds in
the area. For thousands of years, these megalithic tombs have
withstood the test of time. 'Hunebeds' are one of the oldest
burial sites in the country made from impressive stone formations.
You can also visit the monumental village of Orvelte, the 'Boomkroonpad'
(walking path at tree top level), the National Parks of 'Dwingelerveld'
and 'Drents Friese Wold' and Kabouterland (Land of the Gnomes)
in Exloo. |
